Trump stands to make millions from the presidency, if he plays his cards right – despite clear conflicts of interest and ethics issues.
Trump is going to go through with a multi-million dollar expansion of his golf resort in Scotland – even though his attorney said only a week ago that Trump had “ordered that all pending deals be terminated” given potential for corruption in office.
But here we are. Maybe he didn’t think we’d notice.
Regardless, “the expansion would greatly increase the value of the property of the Trump Organization.” And while Trump will definitely try to deflect any criticism, a former White House chief ethics advisor to George W. Bush has even said it’s not OK:
“He’s using language which is ambiguous. It clearly illustrates that around the world, he will simply expand around the various holdings and as they continue to expand, the conflicts of interest expand. It’s like Monopoly: if you have one house on Boardwalk, it’s not a new deal to go for three hotels on Boardwalk.”
Unfortunately, you can’t run a country like you play monopoly. Hopefully the media attention will keep Trump’s corruption in check.
