To make that clear, let’s put it this way:
If your husband wants a sixth child, and you desperately don’t, he can legally rape you and force pregnancy. And if you try to terminate the pregnancy, you can be sued and put in jail.
The state is also banning second-trimester abortions.
It has also made it impossible for women to access the safest method of abortions for pregnancies after 16 weeks: dilation and evacuation (D&E) procedures.
If a doctor performs a D&E, they could be found guilty of a felony, punishable by a $10,000 fine or six years in prison.
A husband, if presumed to be the baby’s father, can file a lawsuit against the physician for monetary damages; if the woman is underage, her parents or legal guardians can sue.
Similar laws have already been found to be unconstitutional, when they’ve been tried in other states.
This is so disturbing – if a woman is sexually assaulted, she could be punished for trying to terminate the pregnancy.
