President Trump and the GOP have been complaining for years about Obamacare and the flaws in the U.S. health care system without offering any solutions. The President himself has made many speeches and tweets promising all kinds of improvements. However, he doesn’t seem to be interested in keeping any of those promises.
Most recently Trump tweeted, “Insurance companies are fleeing ObamaCare – it is dead. Our healthcare plan will lower premiums & deductibles – and be great healthcare!” This is a bold promise to make, and it sounds pleasant, so let’s look at what he is offering…
The GOP Health Care Plan does the complete opposite! The bill will cause massive increases in deductibles! It removes subsidies from health care plans that pay higher percentages of an individual’s health care costs. This forces people to take plans with much higher deductibles or much higher premiums. Larry Levitt, senior vice president of the Kaiser Family Foundation, tweeted “Under the ACA people with incomes up to 150% of poverty pay an average deductible of $255. In the Senate hill bill it would be over $6,000.” He told NBC News “There’s no question that people in the individual insurance market would end up with higher deductibles under the Senate bill, much like the House.”
